Getting Started

Welcome

Thank you for joining the Concealed Carry VA training course! In this course, you will learn about handgun safety, shooting firearms, self-defense laws, and how to get your concealed handgun permit. This course fulfills the training requirement for both resident and non-resident permits in Virginia.

This training program takes approximately 2-hours to complete and can be done all at once or you can stop at any time and jump back in where you left off. You must watch at least 90% of the training video for each section to be able to move on to the next section. At the end of the course, there is a short quiz to make sure you were paying attention. Pass with a 70% (you’ll have 3 attempts) and you should instantly get a digital certificate you can print and submit with your permit application.

I am sure you are going to LOVE this course but if I am wrong and you decide it is not for you, just let us know prior to taking the test at the end and we will give you a full 100% refund! Once you take the test and get your certification, we can no longer provide a refund. This is because once your name is on the certificate, we are legally on the hook for you with the state. That said, if there was an issue, please contact us immediately and we can work it out on a case-by-case basis.

This course covers the BASICS!

It would be impossible to include everything you could possibly want to know about firearms into this course. The topic is far too big and information changes all the time. We will cover the basics and build the foundation you need to succeed in obtaining a concealed carry permit and using a firearm safely.

Laws Change

Welcome to the legal system… it is constantly changing! I could tell you something today and the law could change tomorrow. I will do what I can to keep things updated and relevant BUT as a citizen, you have a responsibility to stay up-to-date with legislative changes and case law that evolves over time and may influence how you carry a firearm.

Laws Vary

Not only do the laws change regularly but they also vary from place to place. The federal government sets some of these but every state has its own laws. What is worse, many towns, cities, and counties also have some regulations specific to them. If we tried to cram every law and regulation for every place into this course, you would never make it to the end. Instead, we hit on the highlights and focus in on the universal stuff. We also cover most of the Virginia laws because while this course is available to everyone, most of our students are in Virginia. You should still do your own homework and find out what laws apply to where you live and travel.

Certificate vs Permit

After completing this course, you will receive a certificate of completion that fulfills the training requirements for both resident and non-resident Virginia Concealed Handgun Permit application. This is NOT your Concealed Carry Permit!!!

You must submit this certificate along with a completed application to either the local circuit court or Virginia State Police to get your actual concealed carry permit! We will talk about how to do that in Section 8.
